First, I hope this doesn't come across like a self-pitying whine. I'm just curious.

It's been three weeks since I started and the average number of visitors a day hasn't risen. I was never expecting the vast readership of the big blogs out there, but I was kinda hoping that my dribble of visitors would turn into a trickle at some point, which it hasn't done yet. Is this usual?

It's all very well blogging for yourself, but when you see other blogs out there drawing in ten, twenty, or more times the number of visitors, you start to wonder if the effort is worth it. If people aren't interested in your thoughts, why not leave them in your head where you can enjoy them to your heart's content without the work of writing them down? I mean, damn you go to all that effort and... oh, okay, maybe there's a slight element of whine. Wink

Seriously, I'm just wondering if I need to look at improving what I write or whether it's just the usual start for a new blog.

matters what you are writing about. Also how are you pimping your blog? Are you commenting in other more popular blogs with a link to yours?

It can be a number of reasons really... but yea, don't give up hope. They'll come... one day Wink

Hope that isn't the problem, because I'm not sure what I can do about that. heh

Not a great deal, must admit. Kinda feels a bit... cheeky. A bit stupid of me I guess. Ah well, hopefully it'll pick up. Smile

You know, I felt the same way back when I started my own anime blog (in Blogger no less). Since what I usually wrote were anime summaries (in essay form) and they come out at least once a month, I was starting to worry if anyone ever reads my blog.

Then when I read more about what blogging for a specific niche (in this case, anime) and on how will you devote yourself to writing about topics pertaining/related to it (i.e. summaries, recaps, tidbits, etc.), I started to ask myself if I will ever attract my own readership with the way I was going. Then it hit me.

If I'm just going to be just myself writing/pimping/fanboying, a significant amount of difference in readership will follow. And from there, is history as we see right now.

Well, that's my story. Guess I was letting it all out, huh? ^^;;;

And don't worry about the readership that much. It's a two way process: you come to them, they come to you. Hope that helps. Smile

It's not cheeky to comment on their posts and include a link to your site in the field provided for it. Some people will click on your name to check out your site, especially if they like what you say, that helps build traffic a lot. Smile

Just curious, what's your average number of visitors.

I remember on my old site I got 87 on the first day, and by the end of the week I got up to 165. But then I left it for Animeblogger, YAY ^^

but to answer the question, give it time and it will grow.

well, inspired by this chat, i made a pretty extensive and long thread on my own experiences and the incomplete guide to getting viewers to your blog.

Cheers, and hope that helps =/

There are many facors for that. I'll try to keep it VERY briefly:

There are mainly 3 ways for visitors to come to your blog:
- blog aggregators like AN, BS oder AB (are you listed on those?)
- organic traffic via search engines
- bookmarks, blogrolls, etc.

Getting into AB and AN shouldn't be too hard.

Getting into other people's blogrolls takes some time and some effort from you. Ask yourself why they should link to you? Do you provide any value to their readers, to the community?
If they have seen a couple of linkworthy content from you, then they are more likely to add you to their blogroll.

Good search enine results are the most difficult parts.
It can takes up to several weeks till your context is indexed (MSN is the fastest and Yahoo! the slowest). Expect several months till you get a decent ranking.

I won't go into detail about how to rank well in search engines because that topic is way to complex.

The main thing to remember is: build great content. The rest happens on its own Very Happy
